CAPE MAY, N.J. – Two Coast Guard members, stationed at Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, are scheduled to compete in the 2011 World Police & Fire Games Aug. 26 in New York City.
Petty Officer 2nd Class Zachary A. Walden will play on the U.S. men’s indoor volleyball team and Petty Officer 3rd Class Matthew A. Mitchell will play on the U.S. men’s ice hockey team. Both Walden and Mitchell are firefighters at the training center.
Events are held across New York City’s five boroughs. Opening ceremonies will be held at Prospect Park in Brooklyn, N.Y., Indoor Volleyball will be held at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan, N.Y., and Ice Hockey will be held at the Aviator Sports and Events Center in Brooklyn.
The event will coincide with the ten year anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001.
