COAST GUARD HOLDS PUBLIC MEETING FOR
PROPOSED WIND TURBINES AT CITY HALL

CAPE MAY, N.J. - Representatives from Coast Guard Training Center Cape May will hold an open house Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Cape May's City Hall, 643 Washington Street, to record public comments on the proposed wind turbines.

The Coast Guard proposes to construct and operate a wind power project at Training Center Cape May.  The preferred alternative consists of construction of two wind turbines with a total installed capacity of approximately 4 Megawatts. The wind turbines at the training center would be located at sites designed to minimize environmental impacts.

A draft Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared for the proposed project in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Council on Environmental Quality regulations, and Coast Guard instructions implementing NEPA: evaluating potential impacts of the proposed and alternative actions, including the No Action Alternative, on the environment.

Copies of the draft EA are currently available for review at the Cape May Public Library, the Cape May Municipal Building, and on our web site at www.uscg.mil/hq/capemay.

Comments may be submitted to the Coast Guard through March 16, 2009 by one of three different methods:
