Week 03

It's been a cold, rainy and windy week at TRACEN Cape May. However, Lima-182 was wisely told, "You will be saving lives in worse weather than this, SO MARCH!"

Monday, the company took the survival swim class. This involved putting on a bulky emergent suit within a two minute time frame and jumping into a pool and "surviving". This was probably one of the most relaxing times we've had so far. We've continued to learn about manual of arms and the different parts of our pieces. We've also been shown what our Close Order Drill test will be like in week 06. We know the areas we need work.

Wednesday, we had multiple classes back to back. We learned about safety, Military Code of Conduct, but most importantly, we've learned about the Coast Guard's history, traditions and values.

We began our seamanship classes on Thursday. This was exciting to the whole company because not only do we learn about different Coast guard vessels and aircrafts, but we learn what it takes to be a real Guardian. We've learned how to tie different knots, repeat and commence Helm Commands, as well as how to keep lookout on a cutter. We were also told what to do in different emergency situations onboard a ship. We finished out our week with running Required Knowledge remedials.

We will begin week 04 at the shooting range. Most of the company is excited about either shooting a pistol for the first time or trying to qualify. With excitement, however, comes nervousness as Lima-182 prepares to take physical fitness tests, seamanship tests and our midterm this week.

Lima-182 is still having a problem with teamwork but is realizing that our Company Commanders are being fair and only rendering punishment as a means to make us better shipmates to each other and better Guardians to the United States.
