AUG10 Hello family and Friends of Whiskey 183. We arrived at Training Center Cape May last Tuesday like deer in headlights. After gaining back our bearings and getting cleared by medical, for the first few days, we were then greeted by our Company Commanders on that Friday. They have had a good grip on us, and it’s a good thing too. With the close order drill they are teaching us, they will have us marching in graduation in no time. They say here at Training Center Cape May that “the days are long but the weeks fly by”. Well, this one certainly has.
AUG10 We’re into week 02 of our training and boy; they sure do keep us busy! Between our time spent in the gym, our Coast Guard classes, and marching from here to there, it seems that there’s barely time to think. We had our first rainy day and got to try out our rain gear. Today we marched with our issued pieces (non-functioning M1 rifles). We’re in good spirits here at Cape May. Every day, our shipmates grow stronger and closer, working as a team.
AUG10 We definitely had a new experience today. We marched in Sierra 183’s graduation ceremony. It was moving to hear the band play and the graduating company recite the Coast Guards “Guardian Ethos”. In just 6 short weeks, Whiskey Company 183 will be doing the same.
AUG10 Saturday marked the day of accomplishment for the company. We had our first close order drill test. The Company was given advice, saying of course, there was room for improvement. Overall they were satisfied with our skill level at the end of week 02. That was a relief for the company to hear. We had a class on military courtesies in regard to saluting the National Ensign and the National Anthem. Finally, the company has also started Watch Standing, a nightly routine of watches done by recruits to keep the integrity of the building throughout the night. Tango Company has been training us.
AUG10 On Sundays, we got to enjoy “Divine Hours”. This is the personal time that we get on Sundays to iron uniforms, attend religious services and write letters home. This is also the time that we can prepare ourselves for the next week. After divine hours, the company went through a rack inspection and a uniform inspection. We also had a class on personal values. We discussed what values were important to us and how these values would relate to being a Guardian and part of the United States Coast Guard. Sunday ended with an invigorating run to gauge each recruits’ run time. 02 weeks down and 06 to go!
AUG10 A morning run with your shipmates and our Lead Company Commander Petty Officer Rosas; what a great way to start the day! After morning chow, the recruits hit the gym, pushing through our “Core Strengthening” class. In the afternoon we attended several required knowledge classes. Finally, after marching back to the squadbays in the rain after chow, we practiced manual of arms with our pieces. Another productive day for Whiskey Company 183. |
